Create a custom dialog for a custom field

Hello,

first let me describe my problem:

We have added a custom multiline text field "contact information" to issues. Everything works fine. But now we want the following things:

1. We want a button next to the custom field to open a custom dialog, where we can specify search criterias.
2. We want to call an external SOAP web service which we can call with the search criterias.
3. The results of the SOAP web service call (parts of it) should be inserted in the custom field "contact information"

The system which gets called is our system wide user management system.

The question is:

• Is there somewhere an example how to "add a button + dialog" to the "create issue" screen and other screens where the custom field shows up?
• Is there an example how to deal with SOAP webservice calls from JIRA to external systems?

I know how to write Atlassian plugins but only for backend tasks like user and role synchronisation with external systems.
