CSV-Import: How to import NULL-Value ?

codelab expert Jun 10, 2014

I want to update some issues using the CSV-import in JIRA. Some custom fields shall be NULL.

JIRA-Version: 6.2.6

Type of custom field: simple text field

I tried this:

"issuekey", "summary", "customfield1"
"MYISSUE-2001","My Summary", ""

and also

"issuekey", "summary", "customfield1"
"MYISSUE-2001","My Summary",

But the value of my customfield don't want to change to NULL/"". What I have to do?

Thanks!

Hi Mathias,

To clear existing values you can put <<!clear!>>, which is a "magic singal" to clear existing value of the field. You can read more about it under https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Importing+Data+from+CSV- "Updating existing issues" section.

Cheers,

Przemek

What type of field is it?

codelab expert Jun 10, 2014

It is a simple text field.

Ok, well, you don't want to import a null. "" is an empty string, and that should import nothing (an empty custom field in Jira doesn't have an entry at all in the database - there's no lines to put a null into)

codelab expert Jun 10, 2014

Yes, you are right, Nic.

Hm, but how can I set the value to an empty string? It seems that JIRA ignores this values and do nothing...

Nic Brough [Adaptavist] Community Leader Jun 10, 2014

Sorry, I'm lost. Using "" should leave the field empty when you import the issue. Not sure what else you are looking for?

codelab expert Jun 10, 2014

"" doesn't work. The field is not empty...

So what does the import put in the field when you use ""?
