I have a somewhat weird/complex workflow (I'm not doing software dev)but essentially it works like this
I want to make it so during or after the Supervisor verifies and closes the ticket, it automatically assigns the ticket back to the worker for reporting purposes. There are many different workers, so I can't do an easy pf that always assigns it back to the same user on close. Any ideas?

Requires scripting and depending on what you do, it may also require JIRA Misc Workflow Plugin, ScripRunner, JIRA Script Utilities
1.) Create a custom field to be populated upon "assign" transition and copy the "assignee" to this field, then in a particular transition, put a post-function "Update field" and get the value from your temp custom field to the "Assignee" field.
2.) You can put a post-function on a transition to update the Assignee to back to the previous assignee
Thank you Gabrielle. I was considering option 1, but from a UX perspective I'm not a huge fan of it(It just dawned on me that I can hide the fields as well, so theres that). I'm very interested in option 2, but for the life of me I can't find that post function option. Would you mind cluing me in to where it is located?
