Adding choices (project, versions, ...) configuration options for a JIRA Gadget

Hi all!

I'd like to write a JIRA Gadget, and I'm wondering which approach to use to let the gadget user choose options from lists, such as choosing a project between all accessible projects, choosing versions for a given project...

I'm reading https://developer.atlassian.com/display/GADGETS/Allowing+Configuration+Options+in+your+Gadget, but I don't get how to dynamically populate configuration options.

Should the Gadget make an Ajax call to get some data, and then display them in its configuration panel? If yes, how to define in Gadget xml description that some options data are coming from server side?
