I would like to set Action Type hierarchy in my Project like Stream- Issue- Task - Subtask .

Thus I would like to know How I can create a Stream on top of Issues in a Project

Hello @Shibu JOHN A

Welcome to the Community!

Find the below steps for the configuration of the Issue Type Hierarchy

Additionally, you need Jira admin permission for the below steps

  1. Access Jira Settings:
    • Go to Jira Settings > Issues
  2. Navigate to Issue Type Hierarchy:
    • In the left column, select "Issue type hierarchy"
  3. Add a New Hierarchy Level:
    • Click on "+ Create level" at the bottom of the menu
    • Name the new level "Stream"
    • Place it above the existing Epic Level
  4. Create a New Issue Type:
    • Go to Jira Settings > Issues > Issue Types
    • Click "Add issue type"
    • Name it "Stream" and choose the standard issue type
  5. Associate the New Issue Type:
    • Return to the Issue Type Hierarchy
    • Use the dropdown in the "Jira issue types" column to associate the new "Stream" issue type with the "Stream" level
  6. Adjust the Hierarchy:
    • Organize the levels in this order: Stream > Epic > Story/Task > Sub-task
    • You may rename "Epic" to "Issue" if desired
  7. Save Changes:
    • Click "Save changes" to apply your new hierarchy

Implementing the New Structure

Once you've set up the new hierarchy:

  • Create Stream-level items for high-level project goals or initiatives
  • Use Epics to break down Streams into manageable chunks
  • Create Tasks (Stories) within Issues to represent actionable work items
  • Use Sub-tasks to break down Tasks further as needed

Remember that this customization is only available in Jira Premium and Enterprise editions. As a workaround, you may need to rename the Epic issue type to "Stream" for team-managed projects since custom parent issue types are not supported in that project type.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks
