Searching all epics in a project does not return everything

samuel.tan February 6, 2022

When I search with the following JQL:

project = 'ABC' and issuetype = 'epic'

It does not return all the epics under the project. In fact, it fails to return quite a lot of them. Could not find a reason based on epic status.

JIRA search in general sucks - reason I was trying the above was because simply searching for the title of the epic failed, coming back with "no issues were found to match your search"

Hi Samuel - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Are you just looking for the actual Epics? Or are you also wanting the issues that are attached to the Epics?

Where are you searching?

samuel.tan February 7, 2022

Just the epics.

Can you list some of the Epics that are not being returned?

Hi John,

Thanks for responding. Not sure what changed, but now all the epics are showing correctly. Before, it would only show one page and was missing epics I knew existed because I was working on them.

@samuel.tan could you provide a bit more context around what you are looking for? The JQL you shared would produce the results of just the issue type "epic" for a single project.

It would return a whole bunch of epics, but not ALL of the epics. I thought it may be status dependent (e.g. some epics are closed) but that is not so. I could not find a link between why some epics are returned and others are ignored.
