Dear Community,

Need your help! How Parent link can be visible on the Card layout (next to Epic's name) and issue details screens?

Parent link is not visible on the main Backlog view (Card Layout) and issue details, although it is visible/added through "Project settings" -> "Issue layout".

When a Story is added to a Feature we need to see it next to Epic on the main Backlog screen (Card Layout).

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Adem Niagbe

IIRC the Advanced Roadmaps fields can be added to issue screens on Free and Standard licenses, however they won't be functional as only issues at the relevant hierarchy level will be shown.

Without Advanced Roadmaps (which requires a premium license as @Angélica Luz says) you won't be able to add additional hierarchy levels above Epic and therefore won't be able to use the Parent Link field.

You've described 3 issue types (Story, Feature and Epic) and I'm wondering if you are expecting these to be used as different hierarchy levels? (i.e. Epic is parent of Feature is parent of Story - this would be as used in SAFe) - unfortunately Jira only the Epic and Story levels "out-of-the-box" on Free and Standard.

If this is the case then you might want to consider upgrading to Premium to access Advanced Roadmaps (a free trial is available if you want to test it).

Regards,

Dave

Hello @Adem Niagbe,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

The Parent link field is restricted to Premium plans since it works with Advanced Roadmaps:

With this said, it’s expected that this field won’t be visible on the tickets because currently, you are on the Free plan.

If you have any other questions regarding this matter, please let us know.

Kind regards,
Angélica

What does this mean?

As in a child can make its parent visible if you pay more money?

This says don't expect relationship integrity in all your views unless you pay "premium" price.

The fact that Parent Link isn't visible as details for an Epic when viewing the Epic on a work board but if I edit the Epic or navigate to the Epic this link is visible.

May be I am wrong and there is some magic configuration at Project level to trigger so this bifurcated view doesn't occur.

p.s AdvancedRoadmap has nothing to do with this bifurcated view or if it is then that is poor implementation
