Automated Field Value during transition of status

Created a field. It is nice to have automation filling in this field by assigning the value to this field based on the person who transitioned it out of Design Statuses.

I think there are two main ways to do this in Jira Cloud:

1. The traditional approach for Company Managed Projects is to use Workflow Post functions.
2. The modern approach is to use Jira Automation.

Creating automation rules is probably easier for people new to Jira.

will plan to use jira automation but I don't know what triggers will use

Something like this:

1. Create a automation rule and set the scope (which projects it should apply to).
2. Choose the Issue Transitioned trigger and set the From status to "Design Status" value(s) in your workflow.
3. Update the field(s) required using Edit issue fields with a "Smart Value". Depending what you want maybe {{initiator.displayName}} which would give you the name of the person who transitioned the issue.

If you have AI on your instance - it can create a basic automation rule for you.

Hello,

Here is the automation I made, tested this and checked the audit log; the status was successful, but the "SGXX Designer" field did not populated the with the user who transitioned the status.
