Why is Bulk Export of an Object Type in Assets returning fewer objects than exists in Object Type?

I have a Mobile Devices Object Type in Employee Hardware. Before today, when I performed a Bulk Export of the object type, it would produce a pop-up window confirming "Action Complete: Export XXXXX objects. This action was completed successfully." Then when I opened the exported csv, the number of objects would be the same as the number noted in the pop-up window and be a full export of the object type.

Today, when I attempted Bulk Exports of the Mobile Devices object type, the pop-up window (Image A) stated that 26247 object were successfully exported (for every attempt). But, the 1st attempt only resulted in 13,247 objects being exported. The 2nd attempt resulted in 15,247 objects being exported. The 3rd attempt produced no export - when I clicked on the link "Download object export" I was taken to a page that said it was a dead link (Image B).

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any Advice?

Hi @Eric Templeton

I had a similar issue and the only way to resolve this was by filtering out the issues and exporting into chunks.  You then have to manipulate the csv files to put them all together. This is definitely not ideal.

Hey Eric,

This looks like a server-side export processing issue. The fact that you're getting different object counts on each attempt (13,247 vs 15,247) while the success message claims 26,247 suggests the export job is timing out or failing partway through.

Quick fixes to try:

  • Smaller batches: Try filtering the object type and exporting in chunks
  • Different time: Export during off-peak hours when server load is lower
  • Clear browser cache: Sometimes helps with download link issues

Report it to Atlassian support this is definitely a bug. Include your screenshots and mention the inconsistent export counts vs. the success message.

The dead download link on attempt #3 confirms it's a backend processing problem, not your setup.

Anyone else seeing Assets export issues lately? Drop me a line if you need help troubleshooting further!

@Vitalii Rybka I tried the export first thing this morning and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the advice!

This morning, I attempted to generate another export and the Action Complete window immediately popped up. It did this each time I tried to export. So, I cleared my browser cache as @Vitalii Rybka recommended. Then, I attempted another export and it was successful.

Update: I have tried bulk exporting numerous Object Types. I still receive the Action Complete window stating the objects were successfully exported. But, when I clicked on the link "Download object export" I was taken to a page that said it was a dead link (Image B above). I cleared my cache again, but there was no change in export results.

I opened a support request: Unable to Bulk Export Object Types from Assets

Atlassian Support reproduced the issue and raised the following bug report:

[JSDCLOUD-17061] Assets bulk export intermittently fails - Create and track feature requests for Atlassian products.
