📣 Coming Soon: Enhanced view restrictions with Locked Filters for Contributors

We want to share an update on view restrictions in Jira Product Discovery that improves consistent collaboration as organizations grow. You told us the “View restrictions” feature wasn’t behaving reliably - and you were right. We’ve fixed the underlying issues.

What’s changing?

Last year, we introduced View Restrictions, giving you control over who can see or edit specific views. This was a big step forward for privacy and collaboration, but we heard your feedback: while view configurations could be restricted, the underlying filters weren’t locked. This meant contributors could still change filters and potentially see data outside the intended scope.

With this update, base filters will be locked on views for contributors. Here’s what that means:

  • Contributors will see which filters are locked and won’t be able to change or remove them.
  • They can still add additional filters for their own use, but these filters will reset when the view is refreshed.

Important: This feature is designed to improve consistency and reduce accidental data exposure, but it's not a security boundary. Users with project access may still access data through other views, issue search, or dev tools. For data protection, please use space-level permissions.

How Will the Change Roll Out?

The rollout begins on Monday and will extend to all accounts over the next 2 weeks.

If you have feedback or specific needs, please let us know in the comments or via our feedback channels.

Cheers,

Olga
